What Exactly Is Your North Star?

Have you ever walked into a room full of people and felt instantly that you needed to leave? Have you ever driven somewhere and stopped at a store you never go to just because you had the sense that you should? Have you ever met someone for the first time and know that you were meant to cross paths?

These aren’t coincidences or random encounters. They are signs and signals that you are following a divine path, listening to your inner wisdom, and connecting with your North Star. When you ignore that sense of deeper knowing, that’s when things in life tend to go awry. Looking back on my own life, I can identify numerous times when I ignored gut feelings, looked away from apparent signs, and doubted my own intuition. Doing so led me down challenging paths and into situations I might otherwise have avoided altogether. Still, judging those decisions isn’t productive. It’s better to recognize why you turned away from your North Star in the first place and understand how you can deepen that connection going forward.

I first stumbled onto the concept of having a North Star when I read a book by Martha Beck called, The Way Of Integrity. The language she used, and uses repeatedly in her other works,  resonated with me in a profound way. I spent so much of my adult life on an endless spiritual path, seeking wisdom, guidance, and advice from others because I didn’t have faith in myself or my own wisdom. I handed over the power to make decisions, what to think, how to look at the world, and how I carried myself to gurus, spiritual teachers, influencers, and others in leadership roles. While I learned so many wonderful things, the biggest lesson of all was this: I have just as much wisdom as Buddha had. The only difference? He tapped into it fearlessly and with complete trust. I had not. Until now.

What I have since discovered is we all have our own innate ability to connect to our inner wisdom. But limiting beliefs, social conditioning, overthinking, self doubt, trauma, and a lack of spiritual interdependence gets in the way. It’s like looking up at the sky on a cloudy night. It appears dark and uncertain. Fear naturally arises. But on a clear night, your North Star illuminates the sky with such force, the path forward is undeniable. There’s no hesitation. You know you’ll follow it wherever it leads. The best part? Once you connect to your North Star, you’ll never lose sight of it again. Sure, you may need reminders from time to time. We all do. Life can often be overwhelming and chaotic, especially in today’s uncertain world. That’s when the connection to your North Star matters the most. You can always go back to it. It’s always there, ready to guide you to where you need to go.

Finding your North Star is akin to coming home to yourself. It’s familiar, safe, supportive, and freeing. Every time a decision arises or you aren’t sure which path to take, pausing for a minute to connect to your North Star will give you the insight you seek. I speak from personal experience. Learning how to listen to my inner wisdom and follow my own North Star has been the greatest gift of my lifetime. That’s why I’m so excited to be a Life Coach. I want to pass along the same knowledge, tools, insights, and skills that I learned to as many people as possible. If you’re ready to start your journey, let’s go. The map is already within you. I’ll gladly help you find your way to your North Star.
